Careers Education

The School wishes to see all its senior students leave well informed about tertiary courses, course pre-requisites, necessary qualifications for careers, how and when to apply for tertiary courses, well prepared for interviews and with up-to-date curriculum vitaes. Programmes are aimed at ensuring the girls make a confident entry to the next stage of their education and knowledgeable about how to access careers-related information.

All Years 7 to 13 girls participate in Careers Education, with programmes appropriate to their year level and interests.

The Careers Adviser is responsible for the Years 7 to 13 Careers Education programmes and for providing advice and guidance to individual students (parents are also welcome to use the service).

Students are able to access a wide variety of written material in the Careers Office and also on the computers based there.

All Years 12 and 13 girls have a special Careers Unit or Module which provides them with timely assistance with their curriculum vitaes, applications to Halls of Residence and tertiary institutions.

The Life Skills programme for Years 11, 12 and 13 students features a wide range of speakers.

Old Girls are invited to speak to the girls at special assemblies about their tertiary courses and careers.

Students participate in Careers Expos held in the city and Year 13 girls in the annual Dunedin Tertiary Information Day.

In 2006 the Careers Advisor organised a special Careers Evening at the College which was well supported by parents and students.

The Years 9 to 13 Course and Careers Handbook which is updated annually and issued to each student and her family is a useful source of information.
