The tramps also provide opportunities for students to prepare for the Expedition component of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Scheme.
Students are actively encouraged to become involved with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Scheme and to begin at Year 10 level (14 years of age), though it is possible to start at a later stage (up to 25 years of age). Awards are gained at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.
The Award is balanced with the four Sections providing a framework to encourage physical activity, mental challenge, individual perservance, teamwork and interaction with other people. It is non-competitive and voluntary.

Skills
Physical Recreation
Residential Project (at Gold level only)

There is a staff-member at the College in charge of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Scheme who is assisted by other staff with various activities provided by the College to assist students doing the Scheme.
