Columba College is located in the city of Dunedin on the South Island of New Zealand. Dunedin is well known as the "Education City" of Dunedin (www.educationdunedin.co.nz) and students are able to enjoy the benefits of being educated in a vibrant University city.
The College is in an attractive residential hill suburb about five minutes by car from the city centre.
The campus now covers 2.6433 hectares following the College's purchase of the adjacent Hill Jack property in July 2002. The well-maintained grounds are a special feature of the campus, providing sunny, sheltered areas for socialising.
The mixture of a New Zealand Historic Places Trust Grade 1 listed building, Bishopscourt, the original Hill Jack homestead, and first-class modern educational buildings like the Girton and Braemar classroom blocks set in landscaped grounds makes for a wonderful learning environment. The blend of old and new is part of the College's ethos - tradition and innovation working together to provide a top quality education.
Special facilities include a 20-person language laboratory with two sound-proof recording booths, a large tiered theatre for music, drama and debating, a smaller lecture theatre and three computer laboratories for Information Technology, as well as a portable computer laboratory of 25 laptops for student and classroom use. Two of the laboratories are Mac with the latest one, Windows-based.
Columba College purchased this 0.5 hectare property in July 2002. Situated immediately adjacent to the College with a Highgate frontage, the property extends along Columba's Oban Street boundary.
The site features the historic Hill Jack family homestead, several magnificent old trees and the buildings erected by the Otago Hospital Board during its long ownership of the property.
The School Office, the Junior School, the International Department, Nancy Blackwell House and the Speech tutorial rooms are now located on the Hill Jack campus.
