Three of Columba College’s students will be joining talented young musicians from around the country next year when they take the stage with the New Zealand Secondary Schools Orchestra (NZSSO) and New Zealand Secondary Students Choir (NZSSC).
Victoria Williamson (Y12) and Skyla Murray (Y8) have been selected to play in the second violins section of the NZSSO with Victoria taking the lead as the section’s Principal Violinist.
The NZSSO will congregate in Christchurch next April for a week of rehearsal ahead of performing on April 27 at the Charles Luney Auditorium at St Margaret’s College.
Year 10 student Rosie Auchinvole has been selected to join
the New Zealand Secondary Schools choir which meets regularly throughout the year for workshops and performances.
Columba College’s Acting Principal Jenness Riethmaier congratulated the students, commending their commitment and discipline.
“There is no doubt that these three young women are talented musicians, however talent must be supported with hours of practice to hone their skills,” said Ms Riethmaier.
“These students have demonstrated commitment to improving their musical abilities and it is excellent to see this hard work rewarded.”
